iPhone / iPod Touch 2.0 remote app connection problems solved!

I figured out the solution to the remote app connection problems.

Remote app is a free application which turns iPhone and iPod Touch (firmware 2.0) into a remote control for iTunes and Apple TV.

Remote app requires bonjour service to be running on your PC/Mac to interact with iTunes.
Bonjour service listens on the port no. 5354, so just forward the port no. 5354 on your router for both udp and tcp connections, so that iphone can connect to bonjour service on your computer.
After port forwarding restart your router and,

1. start the remote app on your iPhone/iPod and click "Add Library"
2. start itunes and you will see your iphone/touch under devices list
3. enter the code and have fun with your wireless remote controller.

[Edit]

I read the bonjour document which says that we must forward our port 5353, but as I noticed on my computer bonjour service is listening on port 5354!

Screenshot of my active connections

So there is something with bonjour, but Apple doesn't care whatever their customers have to face be it non-working DNS Patch or iPhone remote.

How to install unsigned applications on Symbian OS 9 based phones (3rd edition, UIQ) without symbiansigned

First of all you need to hack your Symbian OS 9 phone

Q.) How does this work?
A.) We'll be adding our own authentication to the phone which will be used to authenticate the sis files signed by the certificate and the key provided. It will grant all the capabilities to the application including TCB!!

Note: This tutorial is same for all symbian OS 9 phones(n95,n82,n73,n8,P1i,w960i etc.) until'n'unless mentioned
So here's the HOWTO for installing unsigned applications on your Symbian phone after you have hacked it(CapsOFF) :-

1. Download this rar file containing the certificate, the key and the authentication file for your phone. (Thanks to leftup of symbian freak)
2. Copy the file "00000001" to "C:\resource\swicertstore\dat\" on your phone and mark the file read-only from X-Plore or other similar file explorer. If the given directories do not exist , create them
3. So now your own authentication system is installed on your phone. Now you need to sign your sis files with the given certificate and key in the rar file.
4. For signing sis files (pc based method)(works for all Symbian OS 9 phones)
I) Download and install SignSis GUI on your PC
II) Select the given certificate and key(password is blank) given in 'the rar file you downloaded'
III) Select the file you need to sign and sign it and transfer it to your phone, install normally
IV) Now you have the application installed with all its capabilities
------------------------------OR---------------------------------
4. Mobile based method(no need for a pc), works only for Nokia phones
I) Download and install MobileSigner on your phone
II) Open MobileSigner and select and sign the 'unsigned sis file' and MobileSigner will generate a signed sisx file in the same directory as the source file.
*if you have problem signing try "self-sign" option*
III) Install the generated sisx file and application will be having all its capabilities.

Enjoy!!! :)))

Symbian OS 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 permissions system cracked - The Complete Guide/Tutorial

Yes that's right, FCA00000 of symbian-freak successfully cracked the Symbian permissions system and has managed to expand this hack to all series 60 3rd edition phones with the help of others at symbian-freak.
With this hack you will now be able to explore all the files on your system which were previously inaccessible. To many it may seem nothing special or of no use but this is the first step to open the doors of your Symbian OS 9 phones and your mobile phone will be now really yours!!
You will be able to install applications with any capabilities even with manufacturer's capabilities without a need of certificate from Nokia OR Sony!!

So no more talking lets get to work that how can you do all this stuff:

Note: This tutorial is same for all symbian OS 9 phones(n95,n82,n73,n8,P1i,w960i etc.) until'n'unless mentioned

You will need certain softwares and a PC:
Nokia phones -> Cable drivers of nokia pc suite version 6.85 need to be installed, nor 6.86 nor 6.84
1. Download and Install ActivePython on your PC
2. Download and Install PySerial
3. The magic python script and TRK application
a.) for Nokia (n95 ,n82 ,etc.) + AppTRK / for n73, n80 etc + AppTRK (Thanks to FCA00000)
b.) for UIQ based (P1i , w960i etc.) (Thanks to swmail)
4. Application to turn security on and off (from phone)
a.) for Nokia (n95 ,n82 ,n73 ,n80 etc.) (Thanks to FCA00000)
b.) for UIQ based (P1i , w960i etc.) (Thanks to swmail)

The Real Part:

1. Install the AppTRK application on your phone's memory and start it, then in options>settings, select connection as USB.

2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB in PC Suite mode and then AppTRK will report connected on your phone

3. Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Ports
OR in Windows Vista: Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Ports

Note the COM Port your phone is using

4. Open the python script in notepad (the one downloaded in step 3 with .py extension)

5. Search "serial.serial" without quotes and then replace the numerical value in bracket with the value of your COM Port minus 1 i.e. if your port was 22 then replace it with 21.

6. Save the file

7. Run the script by simply double clicking it

8. Now if you see something like !!!!!!candidate!!!!!!! in the output window, then congratulations now your phone is really yours!!

9. Now you can exit the AppTRK application.

10. Verify the hack with X-Plore, see if you can explore c:/sys/

11. Now if you will reboot the phone you will have to reactivate the hack with above procedure OR to do it without PC do the following(Note: for the first time PC hack is needed)

12.a.) For Nokia :
I. copy CProfDriver_SISX.ldd from RAR downloaded in step 4a into C:\sys\bin
II. install CapsOn.sisx
III. install CapsOff.sisx

b.) For UIQ based
I. Copy patched trkdriver.ldd from rar downloaded in step 4b to c:\sys\bin\
II. Install CapsSwitch on your phone

13. Now you can switch security on and off without pc through these applications
CapsOff = Security OFF and do whatever you want to do with your phone :)
CapsOn = Restrictions ON :(

Enjoy :))))

Tomorrow I will post, that how can you install the unsigned applications with all capabilities on your phone without the need for symbian signed :)

How to protect ourselves on Internet from Hackers and common security myths !!

In my article I will try to point out certain pitfalls, which makes us vulnerable to being hacked!!

--> A firewall and a anti virus is a must..just don't log on to Internet without them, these are your force shields, protecting you from Trojans, viruses and the other remote exploits...the ones i use are
Firewall : Comodo Firewall - its the best and is free too
Antivirus : NOD32 Antivirus
if someone was wandering!!

MYTH 1 >> Firewall is useless it just blocks the software already there on my computer..

-> There's a common myth among us that a firewall is something which makes sure that no application connects to Internet without our permission!!..but its not ,that's just an extra feature and not a firewall's basic function..a firewall is something which blocks all the inbound connections..that is the ping requests which hackers use to check which computers are alive!! or make inbound remote desktop connections, which can be brute forced and full access to your computer can be gained or other attack vectors!!

MYTH 2 >> I have a firewall and an antivirus so now i am safe..

-> No, you are not safe!!...there are other attack vectors...and that's you!
here comes the world of social engineering..you are the one who let those attackers get their Trojans and other sniffers or some other stuff on your computer..
you receive a mail titled "hii, lets be friends" OR "i love you" OR "You Won" OR something else...you eagerly download the attached ppt and sum mp3..boo u have a Trojan on your computer..may your antivirus detect it as a Trojan but u are too eager and desperate to see whats inside..firewall says trying to connect to net ..you ignore it and the hacker is notified that  "another fool in trap".
Or take the case which i have observed used by some paki hackers to get Indian communities on orkut..
they posted topics in the community..became kinda net friends..and then asked the community owner if he would like to hack his friends yahoo..unsurprisingly, he said yes and the hacker sent him the Trojan,Community Owner downloaded it..he was notified by his anti virus and firewall but he disabled them and felt into the trap..now his activities were logged and all the passwords he typed that day were mailed to the hacker!!so the moral of the story is self deducing..don't be fooled and don't be over smart like those Community Owners..
and one more possibility is there, if someone you trust is hacked..then also you are in deep shit

MYTH 3 >> I don't trust people on net, i have a firewall , I have an antivirus so now i am safe...

-> I like saying no..hehe..but yes..you still aren't safe..and the reason is because we are very techno freako people..we like trying new software..by new i mean beta and alpha software and the other not so tested software...because they are not tested they have bugs and exploits in them like the beta firewalls..if someone smart is able to figure out those exploits then you are boomed..consider the case where a bug in MS Internet Explorer 7 was found and was sold for $$grand money to a advertisement site ..with the help of which they were able to deploy Trojans on thousands of computers visiting there site and personal information was stolen...so use some genuinely tested stuff..and use a software like Spybot - Search & Destroy..it will block all the bad sites and by bad i only mean phishing and the malware containing sites, and no other sites!!and the bad sites list is updated frequently!!

MYTH 4 >> I have tested software, i don't trust people on net, i have a firewall and an antivirus..so now i am safe..

-> nopes, you aren't..with the fast growing technology and features, other attack vectors have surfaced..
here i would like to point out to a attack...CSS which is not cascade style sheets but cross site scripting or XSS..now with increasing use of javascript in web applications this attack is increasing..
this attack has been used in myspace ,meebo and many many other popular and trusted sites like even Gmail
a vulnerable website can be injected with any html or javascript code like in some one's scrapbook or email or comment boxes , shout boxes or something other now when the victim will visit that page containing this injected code, the code will execute and your cookie may be sent to attacker or redirect you to some other fake site or something else..
so to protect ourselves from this attack disable the javascript and trust your senses, like when you see some unusual link on the site or a flash file or something other...

MYTH 5>> So nowww i am safe!!

-> Probably yes for now until some new attack surfaces!!

so the first and last point is "Trust Is A Weakness", be paranoid and keep exploring..
i hope this little piece of info will help some one out there!!enjoy surfing and downloading but don't trust anyone!!

and please feel free to comment and add your suggestions or other info to keep us protected!

The DARK Side Of Windows VISTA

Readers are Advised not to read the following article beacause you will start hating Windows VISTA !!
Vista the most talked about OS of Microsoft, which claims to change the digital entertainment and the computer world ,surely it will - but for worse
They have integrated strict, bad and resource hungry content protection techniques in Vista. And have also imposed very strict restrictions on the hardware designs of motherboards, graphics cards and soundcards....but what for? not for the multimedia content to play better but so that it doesn't plays at all! surprised??yes, they are doing so. And these design restrictions have forced the hardware manufacturers to license and pay royalities for unnecessary third party content protection techniques which raises the hardware manufacturing costs for decreased performance!! as these content protections require unnecessary processing.
Vista will also deliberately decrease the playback quality of multimedia content even if the content is purchased genuinely, for the reason that your hardware doesn't supports certain content protection technique!!What a waste!!

What ar3 they trying to do with this content protection which increases hardware costs and decreases system performance and provides no good to the end-user ?It's the biggest game ever palyed by some company to capture the market, Like Apple who controls the whole distrubution and sales of songs and videos for ipods, Microsoft wants to control the playback and distribution of premium content(HD-DVD and Blue-Ray)...so for this to happen they want "us" ,the users to pay the heavy hardware costs for this waste product to run fine on our computers and so that Microsoft can control the way we watch this High Definition content !!!

The Future Of Games - DirectX 10 !

You might be thinking whats so great ,its just an another update for DirectX but its not just an update , its a completely rewritten new API that has a lot faster DLL's but it only supports vista's driver model, so it will not be directly backward compatible with the DX9 games as the driver model it supports is completely different and from directly i mean that a software layer has to be installed on Vista to support those games, and this will make the games run slower.
In one more way DX10 makes your gaming experience 'ekdum mast', it can directly stream data from video card and reuse this data witout a single assistance from your CPU and thus makes your games run on a rather slower PC, but for the DX10 to run you need a compatible video card too! else you will not be able to take the full advantage of it, moreover the way in which DX10 works will let the video card manufacturers make the cards much more powerful and flexible!
Apart from being fast DX10 offers developers many new powerful features which will make the games made on DX10 looking so awesome that you will start hating your DX9 games!!
They are offering a new concept of geometry shaders that can act not only on single vertices but the whole triangles and their adjacent vertices.
It has a lot of other changes too which you may comment upon here..
Well, now start saving for your next gaming PC...vista expected to come in Jan 2007.

Seagate Launches Largest Hard Drive - 750 GB !

Seagate will introduce , the Barracuda 7200.10, the first computer desktop disk drive to hit the 750-gigabyte mark and it's a 50 percent increase from the previous industry maximum of 500 gigabytes
A 750-gigabyte drive could hold roughly 375 hours of standard-definition television programming, about 75 hours of high-definition video, or more than 10,000 music CDs converted to the MP3 format
For the hard drive industry, the capacity milestone pegs the biggest, fastest jump in its 50-year history.
The big leap stems from a new so-called perpendicular recording technology that allows drive makers like Seagate and rival Hitachi Global Storage Technologies to boost the density of a disk by aligning bits of data vertically rather than horizontally. At the same time, fewer moving components are needed in the drives.
Drive is suggested to be priced at $559..an awesome cost/MB of  Rs 0.0326989066/MB wooh! too much precision

CPU Pricelist: May 2006 ( INR )
